Winamp Talks Too Much!

Well, i got the latest version of winamp about a couple of weeks ago, and it's great and all. The winamp remote thing isn't constantly getting in my way like in older versions. Now the only problem is, when I am in the winamp window, jaws seems to want to announce every track name, and it's cool to some extent. However, when I shuffle through my music I dont want to have to hear each and every track name unless I hit insert plus t. How can I fix this problem?

You can't just alt+tab out of the winamp main window? That should stop jaws from reading it when it comes in. And, what does the winamp remote do? I never install it.

Okay all you winamp users, please! tell me why you prefer winamp and what makes it different from other players such as windows media player. I am teaching a class on ripping, burning, and downloading music and people have asked about winamp. I tried it and found nothing at all atractive about it. I'm deciding to teach ITunes instead. So, let's hear it! Why should I teach winamp? Thanks.

lol you shouldn't it really sucks. I've tired all 2 and my fav one is for sure itunes specially with the new improvements it has made to work with window eyes or jaws. But if i didn't have an ipod, I would stick to windows media player it really is relyable. Winamp just always froze my computer and I didn't get that many options as with windows media player or itunes. So for me itunes all the way!

with me, it's because meedia player messed up jaws. like when you go to turn down meedia player, your jaws turns down to.

I like the simplisity of winamp. There are so many keyboard shortcuts. It is easy to get to the library and navigate through it. When listening to an audio cd it is easy to navigate between tracks and listen to their titles. I love the radio station support.

I find windows media 11 a pain in the butt! There seems to be no easy to navigate around. Teach me something please...smile!

As far as I know you can't burn with ordinary winamp. I believe you need to pay for the pro version.

Actually youcan burn wit the regular version but t's only at 1x the speed of your CDRW drive, so you're limited.
Winamp is fantastic as others have said, it's very vercitile, you can get a plugin that supports just about any file format you can think of and some you haven't thought of, and unlike iTunes, you aren't limited to files being potected with DRM. You can buy a track for $.099 from the Amazon mp3 store and within seconds you're listening to it right within Winamp and you can move it to *any* portable device, not just your iPod. It's also very customisable. With iTunes, you get hat you get and while some of the views can be hidden, you have to install a whole bunch f stuff you may never use. Wit Winamp, you can install *only* the components that you want to install, and you can make it act exactly ow you want it to. You can lower Winamp's volume independent of your screenreader volume, which is nice. Now if you're using Vista this s already possible, but for us XP users, this is a god send!

Is there a way to listen or watch podcast via winamp? Is there a way to use winamp for mp4 files? Or is that just m4, not sure.

I thought you had to have a key to burn with winamp

no, winamp can burn if it's standard or pro, only difference is that pro can burn and rip much faster

Yes to all. Winamp wholeheartedly supports mp4. You can go to shoutcast or icecast or any other station and then listen to it. Another advantage about winamp (for all the Crap Tunes maniacs) is that at least it is portable (i can run it from my flash drive and all my settings are intact; you can even move entire program directories and it will still work) , allows running more than one instance, works with any soundcard (if you ahve more than one you can play files trhough it), has that less shiny and colorful appearance or wannabe mackin' trash look if you preffer, ETc ETC. Anyway, if you want jaws to stop reading the titles every time you shuffle or move through tracks, (and i believe this is the newer jaws issue or whatever): do the following:
1. Open winamp.
2. Press insert 6 to go to the configuration manager.
3. access the set options menu, then user options.
4. Set your screen echo to none.
5. Press oK< then Save settings.

That's it!

To Louiano, I'll take your Apple Mac thing as a joke, good one, btw...:) I have a Mac, love the damn thing, and I use VLC Video Lan Client on it, it works very well, and likes voice over.
To Willy, when you teach the class, I'd advise you teach them not only about Winamp, but also VLC and Media Player Classic, which is part of the KLite Codec Pack.
Willy, what ripping software are you gonna teach them to use, may I recomment Exact Audio Copy with LAME.
LAME stands for Lame Ain't An MP3 Encoder. I like EAC with Lame because if set up properly, it produces the highest quality mp3s without having to go to lossless using flac or staying with wav.
But this is just my opinion, take it or leave it.
If anyone needs help in setting up Exact Audio Copy, lemme know in a PM and I'll be glad to help out, as much as possible. Either that or just reply with specific questions, sorry to take this thread in a different direction.

Where do you find the rip and burn options at?
